Pridelands Waterhole.
Characters who aren't IC were assumed to be following, and then resting next to the waterhole. If you are in the Palanda Surviving group, poke me to get to the water hole when I'm on.
Characters that are IC = Ahadi, Chioh, and Kiume spoofed by Taalib.
Ahadi stands beside the waterhole, facing the direction he expects the Palandasya refugees to approach from. Huntresses continue dragging in carcasses and a pair of guards stand by on either side of himself. An additional pair of guards was dispatched to watch over the refugees; expecting the worst, Ahadi fears what survivors are left might not be in a condition to defend themselves and could be taken advantage of by other beasts. There is some minor tension and disagreement over Ahadi's orders, and the king knows the sacrifice of more mouths to feed and so many strangers suddenly in their lands is not insignificant, but he is resolute and confident his decision was the right one. A slight spring breeze ruffles through his mane and rouses small clouds of dust in the well-worn soil surrounding the waterhole. Something in that breeze tells Ahadi the hour of the Palandasyans' arrival is nigh ...
Granted there aren't many survivors from the killing that happened at the Palandasya Kopje, but there are a good sized group of survivors. Resting on most of the adult lions and lionesses backs are the cubs that aren't old enough to make such a long journey. Chioh, even with his cubs on his own back, looks like he's about to fall down with exhaustion. The wounds on his flanks and his side have stopped bleeding with the walking, but they haven't healed over because of the lack of stopping and resting. The rest of the lions have a myriad of wounds on them, some more lethal then others, but they continue on walking to the water hole. Chioh at the lead.
Ahadi uses all his formal training to avoid gawking or staring at the injuries as the remnants of Chioh's pride come into view. He stands regally, the last zebra carcass dragged into place and, with a nod from Ahadi, the huntresses depart to hunt again, this time for each other and the remainder of Ahadi's own pride. When Chioh has arrived to the point of conversational distance, Ahadi bow simultaneously to Chioh and the survivors. "King Chioh of Palandasya, his majesty King Ahadi of Pride Rock bids you welcome," a guard introduces. The Lion King himself speaks next: "I honor the pact between Palandasya and Pride ROck by offering rest, food and refuge within the horizons that are our Pridelands. You and those you have brought with you are our honored guests, and we shall afford you every protection we do the members of our own pride. My skilled huntresses have provided this food for you and your kin, that you might begin to regain your strength and find comfort in the compassion and comaradarie of our pride now, in your darkest hours."
Chioh seems to be in a sort of a trance when Ahadi is introduced, and he snaps out of it with a small shake of his head when Ahadi starts to talk himself. The former king looks up at the Loin King, and says, "King Ahadi. Palandasya has fallen to the paws of rogues. I'm no longer a king of any land. But, I do honor your choice to acknowledge the pact that we once had when I was a king." Some of the other lions still regard Chioh as a king, hence why they are here. The lions that are hurt the worse instantly head for the water itself to replenish their thirst, and Chioh lets his family head off to do their own thing. He keeps his youngest son with him though as he walks closer to Ahadi. On the former king's features, there is a sense of sadness. A great loss.
Ahadi says to Chioh as Chioh's pride takes to the water, "Fate knows why they struck your pride and not mine, and I feel ashamed at being blessed to have been spared such a dastardly attack for it comes with the suffering of your own pride. Our roles could well have been reversed, with my having a need to seek refuge with Pride Rock survivors in your territory, and you are among the few of my neighbors, Chioh, are one I know that, in such a situation, would not pause to show my pride compassion. Your blood may have been spilled, you may have been forced from your home, but it does not change who you are. I pray to the gods that you will see your pride healed and restored ... I know your brother and the others lost in the massacre you suffered can never be brought back, but some day Palandasya may rise again, and that day ... or whatever goal you decide to persue ... I hope to do my best to help you achieve. Your people have been blessed with your wise rule, and I would not expect them to suddenly serve a stranger who has yet to earn their trust. I believe it best that you remain a king to them."
Kiume finally begins to stir on Chioh's back, shaking his head and looked up as he realizes they're on the move again. At least this time he's with his father. He looks around drowsily, smacking his lips as he starts mewling for food, or just attention. The little cub has just gone through terror and hunger for the first time, and all he knows is that he doesn't want to be seperated from his father, at least until he's offered food.
Chioh chuckles slightly as he says, "I'm grateful to have you as a neighbor to the lands that were once my own. Your offer doesn't fall on deaf ears, and I plan on retaking my lands back when I have the chance." The tone of his voice is enough to cement that into truth and a dream. The mewling of his son switches his attention away from Ahadi to Kiume as he then turns his head and then looks back at Ahadi. "If you will excuse me, my son needs food." With that, he heads to the closest carcass and lays down, sliding Kiume down onto the ground and then pushing a small piece of meat towards him.
Ahadi eyes the cub. He hopes the cub's mother is still alive ... but the reality of Chioh's situation, Ahadi knows, is that a number of the cubs that have escaped with the adults may be motherless, some completely orphaned. He considers the possibility he may need to ask some nursing mothers of the Pridelands to nurse Palandasya cubs. "How many are with you?" he asks. "Do you have enough nursing mothers for unweaned cubs?" He wonders well of the cub's mother's fate, but does not ask ...
Kiume takes one look down at the meat, and leaps upon it, tearing small pieces away. He's only just begun to be weaned, but there's meat, and no milk, so he doesn't really have a choice but to grab whatever sustenance he can. He growls happily, gnawing on the chunk with relish. He doesn't have much focus on anything except food right now... and the knowledge that his father is close by.
Chioh watches his son eat, and he glances back at Akase who's laying where the sleeping suvivors are. He knows that the meat probably won't be good for the cub, but when his mother is sleeping, he doesn't want to wake her. He looks back up at Ahadi and says, "Most the cubs that are here are my own. My mate is resting with my daughter. They have just begun to be weaned from Akase's milk." Then there are the cubs that are old enough to go and eat meat like his oldest son and Uzuri. He looks back down at Kiume, lowering his muzzle down and nuzzlling him softly.
Ahadi smiles at the cub, thinking of his own cubs and nods. "What kind of conditions are your huntresses in? Are any of them uninjured enough to be able to help out with the hunts? I don't expect any that are injured to be overburdened, but neither do I wish to overwork our own huntresses when there is help available."
Kiume ceases his devouring to take a pause, licking his lips and purring as his father nuzzles him, arching his back and turning his head up to poke at him before going back to his meal. Well, he supposes he can get used to this... as long as he could taste his mother's milk, one last time?
Chioh looks up at Ahadi, and he feels Kiume poke at his chin, causing the king to laugh slightly. "My huntresses are wounded, but they are able to hunt. It depends on their own feelings of their wounds. Some of them will have to be told to stay behind though." He looks back down at Kiume, "I'll have to bring Kiume back to Akase soon."
Ahadi nods and smiles at the cub's antics. "If any are wounded, they should be allowed to heal. We will all need to take careful stock to ensure we do not hunt more than the Pridelands can sustain as well, but that's a long term concern ... the immediate needs are more important. The Waterhole should more than suffice for water for both prides, as it manages to sustain a herd of elephants and the occasional hippo."
Finally, the cub gets his fill. Kiume stumbles sleepily back over to Chioh and drops in beneath his mane, purring and adjusting himself so he's covered by a good portion by the shaggy mane. He'll probably never really understand what happened back there, but right now he's too tired to care that he doesn't know. He just wants to keep close to his parents, and he knows things will be fine.
Chioh looks down at his son as the sub buries himself into Chioh's mane and the king speaks softly, "For now we will all rest. I, myself, need to rest as well. My pride hasn't slept or rested since we left our home." he looks up at Ahadi and says, "If you will excuse us. I think my pride needs some well earned rest. Our lives have been in jeopardy for the last few days. This is the first time that we are able to rest."
Ahadi nods and bows to Chioh. "I will have my guards stand watch over you. If you have need of anything, let me know. I pray to the gods you and your pride have a full and fast recovery, and again I welcome you into the Pridelands. Pleasant dreams, King Chioh." He emphasizes the point of addressing Chioh as king -- whether he has lands to be king over or not.
Chioh lowers his head down to the ground, right now too tired to answer the king and he lets his son sleep easily in his mane. Within second, the King is asleep on the ground. He just wants to rest.
Ahadi leaves the king and his son to rest in piece, nodding to his guards to stand watch before he turns and heads back to Pride Rock.
