The nights are cool in the Pridelands, giving its residents plenty of excuses to wander about after the sun has gone down. Adili isn't here for pleasure, however; he's on duty. The knight keeps a keen eye on the savannah grasses as he sits at his post at the base of the promontory, with only the occasional shifting of his tail and the swiveling of his ears to show that he is not a part of his stony surroundings. He would usually be staring up into the night sky, but not now.
Abidemi is in perpetual night. He rests at Pride Rock, staring ahead with eyes he doesn't have. He is eerily still, thinking aout things that have happened and will happen. He wonders if Sarabi or his brother miss him. He smells the cool air and sighs. Fresh grass. He listens to the guard's movement.
One of the lionesses, Sono, wakes up slowly. She's been out for a while, she doesn't look like she used to, she's eaten and all that stuff. She feels better now. She has to thank Uru for her kindness and all the help. For now, she's just waking up, looking around lazily. She loves this place, it's a nice place to call home.
Adili doesn't seem aware of the cub or the lioness. If he is, it doesn't bother him. His attention is fixed elsewhere, out in the twilight lands.
Abidemi is still unmoving, glued to that spot. She seems to be searching, despite the lack of eyes. He finds himself reviewing what he had said before. Yesterday, when he arrived. 'I do not know my purpose.' He sighs. He knows that while he's blind, he's useless to King Ahadi and Queen Uru as a physical lion. 'I do not know my purpose.' Abidemi seems to be more searchig himself, trying to find the answer to his question. 'I do not know my purpose.' He is Abidemi, son of Aso'Caed. If his father were still king when he was born, he may have been royalty, not that it appeals to him in any way. 'I do not know my purpose.' His father's name has no meaning to him, Aso'Caed being an obscure figure he has learned from his own birth never to love or trust from his mother, Queen Kutamani. 'I do not know my purpose.' Looking within, Abidemi finds no answers to his question, just another fear that he will be worse. A meaningless cub, leading a meaningless life. Without purpose.
Unlike the male or the cub, the lioness notes the other guys in the area. The male first catches her attention... Who is that? And what is he looking at? Giving a shrug she looks away from him, again around... She now sees the cub... Yuck, what happened to him!? The lioness slowly stands up, stretching and all that... The routine with a yawn. The female, now on her feet, starts walking towards the cub, not making a sound.
Abidemi, because Sono doesn't make a sound, is unaware that Sono has moved closer to him. He stops thinking aout his purpose for a good moment. 'My purpose will be found.' He again finds himself thinking about Sarabi, his best friend from Mwenyezi, wondering if they'll meet again. May the gods be with her, he doesn't trust his uncle. He wonders also about his mother... and his brother. He hopes they are safe.
And then, all of a sudden, the cub can feel something, cold and wet... Sono's nose bumbing the cub's nose, "Hey lil one..." A nice voice can be heard... It's a shame the cub can't see her, because she's milling at him, "You look thoughtful." Nie way to start a conversation, eh? The lioness looks around again, spotting the male again, but again she looks at Abi.
A notched ear flicks back at the sound of voices, but Adili doesn't stir otherwise.
Abidemi smiles at the affection. "Yeah, I guess I am a bit thoughtful. I have a lot to think about." he says. "As do all creatures have a lot to think about. It's part of how we live. A cub can't grow without investigating all the parts of his little world, which only stands to grow thanks to tose around them. On the other pawm those others would also be a cause for fear and doubt. A loss of purpose."
Right, the blind cub wants to investigate... What, he'll smell all things until he visualizes them? Sono doesn't think the cub has much future, being blind and all, "That's good cub. I admire you... You always should" LOOK! "go forward, never look back." Damn, there's that LOOK word again.
Adili is skipping his turn.
Abidemi can tell how Sono is dancing around the word 'look.' "I'm not stupid. I know you mean well, but if you want to say the word, say it." he says, then mentally kicks himself. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. I'm looking, indeed. But I can't find what I'm looking for. At least... not yet."
Sono'Nesha shuts her eyes, a bit frustrated, she didn't want to upset the cub, "You just have to try harder... We all have purposes in life..." Yours is down the cliff cub, sorry.
There's a soft grunt from Adili. It's more a sound to make his presence known than to interject anything into the conversation. Just a grunt. Grunt.
Abidemi twitches. He keeps feeling how insincere this lioness seems to be. He doesn't want to hurt her, alas, because she means well, but he can almost tell what she thinks his purpose is. He keeps his mouth shut and looks down.
Sono'Nesha noses the cub... Don't do that cub! Cubs should smil all the time, that's a cub's purpose, smile! "I'm sorry... I didn't mean..." How to fix it... Nope, it's not easy, "Sorry." She finally mutters, looking away back at the male... A little help here?
Help, no. Some berating, yes. Adili finally pushes himself to his feet and swaggers towards the lioness and cub. "Leave the boy alone," he rumbles in his rich deep bass voice. And judging by the stern expression on his face, he means it. Sono doesn't seem to be doing Abidemi a bit of good, and it's really not fun to sit and listen to this conversation.
Abidemi is aout to say something to either of them, when he freezes. He saw something... but not through his own eyes it seems. And... a name crosses his mind, one he doesn't know as himself... but... familiar. Then a phrase, a threat on her life, perhaps. He can't look further, he can't control this. His sockets grow wide, panic settling in his features. "A murder... Karo'ed... 'This will be the last mistake you'll ever do.'" he says. "Your name is Sono'Nesha, the mother of slaughtered cubs... betrayed. Like me."
Sono'Nesha looks at the lion and... Oh great, males... Always the same. She was looking for help, not a coment like that one. ut uhm... How to say this, the male is right... Pfft, she won't admit it, she wanted to help the little thing... And uhm... What the? Sono turns to the cub, eyes wide... And then she starts crying, looking at the cub. No, don't cry... She can't controll it, "Leave me alone!" She yells at the cub as if he was her own father, even growling at the blind kid. Then, she just turns around, walking and crying, what a sight.
Adili's ears push forward when Abidemi suddenly begins to speak nonsense, and then his eyes go to Sono when she reacts to the cub's statements. The big lion blinks a few times, completely speechless and at a loss. What just happened?
Abidemi knows she's leaving him, ut he doesn't even know what happened to him. "I... what...? What did I just do?" he says, and curls up on the rock. "I couldn't help it. I couldn't help it. I don't know what just happened! One moment I'm talking to Sono and the next.... I saw things." He stands, distraught. "Sono! Wait!" And he carefully follows the sounds of her voice, feeling for his path with his paws. So... he was able to see into Sono's past, but he still suffers from the physical blindness. He's scared by this.
