I also think there should be more emphasis on making a herd group like a bunch of herbivores of various species living together...I know there's an elephant group and I'd like to see that get built up as well. This would add more realism to the african experience with herds of herbivores roaming the plains....
What do you all think of that?

We don't want to make @groups all over the place, though, and have people make crazy amounts of alts that they never play.

Right but how about like one main herd group of herbivores of various species, so if someone wants to play a herbivore they can have a group to join?
Same thing with the avian group. I thoght the air force was turning out great

Kings and Vagabonds has neither an elephant group nor an avian group. You're thinking of ER. XD

You know, a herbie group would be pretty neat, if it could be done right. By 'right', I mean, I good concept, first off, potential story line, good organization, active leaders, and everyone being on the same page. Unfortunately, I haven't really seen it done right yet. What it really needs, I think, is for everyone to settle on one or two species rather than just coming up with a bunch of different ones and trying to put it together. I saw it almost happen once, on TLK. Back when the zebra group was just about to get started. Ras (Vivo, I believe) put it together really well, had a good plot line to follow, and extremely good organization. Initially it was active and a lot of fun, but I forget what happened to thrash it. I think that's when TLK started to decline in a hard fashion, which probably had an impact on such a group. Personally, I'd be more than interested in seeing something come up. I've seen the idea of avians and elephants tossed around. I was thinking, really, more of a lesser-herd structure rather than something like the elephants, who are, basically, untouchable by other species. Not to say they aren't hunted - they are, as National Geographic demonstrated. I just finished reading a book called 'The Fire Bringer' and I'm sure a lot of you have probably read it to. What about the herd structure of that place applied to...Wildebeest or some similar smaller ruminant? I could definitely see that working and providing a viable line on which to run a herd. I also *cough* watched 'The Wild' for the first time recently and completely fell in love with the wildebeest there. Cracked me up. That could potentially be applied, on a lesser note. Not the whole 'want to be predators' thing, but maybe a herd with the attitude that they aren't going to take it from predators any more. It'd definitely allow for solid interactions and a lot of fun along the way. Just some stuff tossed around. An actual herbivore herd wouldn't have to be included in @groups, since there seems to be a bit of thinning-out of the population, and really, most herd species tend to not have a particular one in charge.

Eeeexcellent idea. Emphasizes the point I was harping on earlier. Yes, I /love/ the idea of having an herbivore group. <3
Brings a nice bit of "green-ness" to the MUCK. If that makes any sense at all. I mean, all those lions and meerkats; such an overabundance of gold and brown, and the herbivores will bring a bit of "arboreal vegetation" into the scene... ha ha. Just ignore me, please. I'm tiiired. XD
You brought up a good point, Suhuba- most herd species /don't/ have leaders. Perhaps we could install one anyway, as a sort of OOC leader- the one that would officially answer questions about the group, recruit, etc. Not an actual IC leader.

Actually Mercutio had that good point.. I was just saying I liked the idea. XD So Mercutio gets all the credit!
An I like the idea of someone being there OOCly that could answer questions an the like. n.n

My initial idea was sable antelopes too. We have Oryx here in New Mexico and an actual herd living on the college ranch not 30 minutes from where I live, so I'm totally into the whole bunch of those types. I'm on a wildebeest kick right now just because of The Wild, but that'll probably pass. Is there any other interest in this beyond me, Suhuba, and Isoba?

well...yes.
I personally think having a herbie herd would be a blast - someplace to fit Gwala and any other wandering grass-eaters. But it all depends on the amount of interest in it. People jump at making a meerkat or lion character because....I don't know, they're popular and tend to be central to RPing plots. Or at least they are easy to find RP for. However, I've seen that most people are apathetic about "prey" characters.
We'll see, though. If enough people are willing to create and play herbivores, who knows what could happen?

I'm interested! I have a zebra character all dressed up with nowhere to go. I'd be willing to add him to any herbie groups that come along.
Come to think of it, I have an elephant character I should be @requesting too...

My only herbivorous character is not a very herd-type fellow (unless he's looking for new "studies"), but I do have a lioness cub, Nyaius, who hangs out with a nomadic herd currently stationed in the Mwenyezi hunting grounds. Any herdie is welcome to come frolic with her.

I tried to start some interested in a herbivore group with Akinsanya, and HE tried to gather folks to him as well. Alas, there just wasn't much interest. I always loved him and would be happy to bring him back.
