As you no doubt know by now, a number of issues have upset our wizstaff for some time, leading to the resignation tonight of Kiniro, followed by Ajazi and Chukizo. We've already lost Amikia and Bahati. This, combined with the fact that we've been losing players and had scant RP for some time, puts us in a very shaky position. I think Kings and Vagabonds is worth preserving, though, so I took a certain amount of control tonight.
When I logged on and found what was going on, I began paging people left and right. Eventually, most of us ended up gathering in the Rocky Grassland to discuss what was to be done. The ten of us (which included myself, Bahati, Uchenna, Bughudhi, Adili, Idredh'Reo, Eshu, Kuchwa, Chioh, and Kingukera) talked for hours. For a while there were some heated disagreements and tempers, but eventually we calmed down and managed to get some constructive discussion done. I'm posting a summary here for further discussion, so that the players who weren't present can express their opinions. What we decided isn't set in stone--after all, as I write, the headwiz is still unaware of any of this--but it's a good starting place.
To begin with, we all agreed that since the MUCK was already spread thin, and now that we've lost more people, we would do well to consolidate by reducing the number of groups. We eventually decided that the Palandasya lion pride, which has been mostly inactive, should be destroyed by the Blood Brothers. If this plan is adopted, the Blood Brothers, uninterested in territory, willl move on, and the land will be left open. The Lutogolo wolf pack will then settle into part of it, although this does not prohibit other species from using that area. The rest of Palandasya will probably be removed from the map.
We also agreed that the graveyard hyenas and the Wahamishi wild dogs should be divested of @group status, although they'll be allowed to remain and muster whatever roleplay they can. Uchenna will no longer be considered an FC, and the hyena FCs will lose their status as well. If, with Chukizo and Ajazi's help, the dogs are able to muster a resurgence, we can always reverse this move.
If we do in fact go in this direction, we should set a date for the Blood Brother/Palandasya battle. Most of the Palandasya who survive are expected to flee to Pride Rock (although individual Palandasya players can do whatever they want), which will make Pride Rock more active and also incite various drama with the infusion of new blood.
The large story arc involving peace talks between Mwenyezi and Pride Rock, and eventually leading to the selection of Pridelands heirs, will proceed as soon as we refill our FC cast. The timing of the two plotlines can work in any combination, as I see it.
We will discuss appointing one or two new wizards. Bahati may or may not be returning to the staff. It was also suggested in this discussion that we could hire some non-wiz helpstaff. I personally don't think this is necessary, but the reasons given were twofold--so that wizards don't have to deal with minor issues that may crop up, and to reduce the intimidation factor of talking to a 'wizard'.
It is possible we will need to instate new rules. No specific examples were given in the discussion, though, just the suggestion that we review things. It was also agreed that we should do an idlepurge. Some minor programming issues were also raised that we will deal with when we have the time.
Clearly, we have a lot of issues on the table here. I will make a couple of threads in the public section of the forum where everyone can post their comments and suggestions. If a lot of comments are received on a particular topic, we may break it into its own thread. Your feedback is valued.
One last thing--just because we'll cutting back our groups doesn't mean the MUCK has to fade away. Sometimes the strongest roleplaying groups are relatively small. The thing to avoid is having to maintain too many different groups at once, and thus failing to keep any going strong. That's a trap it's well within our power to escape.
