I would like very much to see a Herd pop up; maybe we should start recruiting people to play herd animals in some form or other? I posted a couple of elephants to the Adopt-a-character thread, in hopes someone might take some interest in them, however, we dont need elephants for there to be a herd! There's a ton of male lion players out there! Let's see more Herbies, too!

Well, you could bring her back. -.n Somoe was the first scary thing Nikashi ever heard about at ER, and while things have changed here, it would be nice to see her around again!

Arr. What's this here post doing all the way down here, with seemingly only one lone person interested in even replying? D:
Nikashi's right, guys- herbies ftw(!), and I'd be very disappointed if some sort of herbivore-herd didn't crop up on KaV sooner or later.
...only planting one crop in a field leads to de-fertilization of the soil, you know. *hinthint* D:

Didn't we usually have a problem getting interest in herds? I mean most players seem a lot more interested playing the predator than the prey...at least that's how its seemed on most other TLK/African places to me.

I think the lack of interest is because not many find appeal in playing herbivores, simply because there doesn't seem to be much dynamic involved. What does a herd do, besides graze and fertilize and get hunted?
So what if we added a twist to a future herd-group? What if they were a secret mafia or the like? Remember how the hyenas/Scar used the wildebeest herd to kill Mufasa? Who's to say that they were just mindless, ignorant participants? What if they were coerced into murdering the Lion King? Getting trampled during a hunt would look far more like an accident than anything a lion could think of. And think of it: herbivores outnumber their predators by an incredible margin. According to sheer numbers, they would be the dominant species of the savannah, and really, the predators rely on them a great deal. Without the herds, the lions would perish.
I dunno. Just chucking out wild ideas.

I dunno, I had some really great scenes with Akin. I remember the whole "evil Herbie herd" suggestion from back on ER and I really didn't care for it much. I did try to help organize a sort of coalition/group what have you, which Akin was trying to spearhead, if not lead. He advocated a mutual respect relationship between predator and prey. It certainly wasn't anything as ridiculous as herbies volunteering themselves to be eaten or that nonsense, but it was working toward a situation where if predators took more than they needed, the herds would take things into their own hands. Either by fighting back (the larger herbivores are very powerful...a zebra can kill a predator with a well-placed kick to the jaw. broken jaw = starvation. And Akin has skewered more than one kitty on his horns.), or by moving themselves away and thus causing issues with finding food (Ed and I were working on this on ER before it all went to hell). I found Akin's interactions with others on the muck, be they predator or prey, to be highly enjoyable, even without deep plotlines.

I'm not saying the herd should be evil; just a bit like mercenaries. The idea of them controlling the lives of the lions is the major point to stick with.

Yes, but the herbivores should acknowledge that they also need the predators. That's why I was going for the mutual respect thing. "Mercenary" certainly doesn't imply nice, if not evil. Self-serving and greedy come to mind. :/

I agree with Kuchwa there is no circle of life if there are no herbivores, life would not exist if something didn’t die for something else it is a cycle, your born you live then you either die form natural causes or a predator, then you body is turned into some type of plant, tree, and or food for a scavenger.
